Department’s Website

The Department of Accounting and Finance is based in Heraklion. Its curriculum meets today’s needs for a critical approach to Accounting and Financial Science, in correlation with other disciplines such as Economics, Business Administration, Law, and Informatics. The goal of the Department’s scientific faculty is to train top-level scientists, adequately qualified to meet the current requirements of companies and organizations in both the private and public sector.

In addition to the Undergraduate Program, the Department also offers three Postgraduate Programs (Master’s). The first two are, “Accounting and Auditing”, consisting of four academic semesters, which has been developed jointly with the Department of Accounting and Finance of the University of Macedonia, and “Financial Management”, an independent program of the Department consisting of three academic semesters. These two master’s programs have contributed tremendously to the Department’s academic progress and they have gained recognition in academic institutes and production organizations in Greece and abroad. In addition, as a result of the HMU’s expanding net of collaborations, the Department participates in the interdepartmental Master’s program “Data Analysis and Finance Technology”, launched in the academic year 2021-2022, in collaboration with the Department of Management Science and Technology of the Hellenic Mediterranean University and the Departments of Accounting & Finance and Informatics of the Neapolis University in Pafos, Cyprus.

Through European Higher Education Mobility Programs, students of the Department can go abroad to complete part of their studies or internships, and return with unique life experiences. Some may even choose to stay for postgraduate studies or career.

It is worth noting the high percentage of our graduates’ employment rates, with the majority of them (more than 85%) working in the private sector in areas related to their studies, such as business financial management, accounting and tax consultancy, internal company auditing, external auditors, investment decisions analysis, loan and insurance risks analysis, financial and insurance consultancy, etc.
