Garyfalia Grammatikaki is a Professor in the Department of Agriculture, School of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition, TEI of Crete. She holds a BSc in Agriculture from the Department of Agriculture, University of Bari (Scienze Agrarie, Facoltà di Agraria, Università degli Studi di Bari, Italy). She completed a postgraduate degree at the Istituto di Nematologia Agraria Applicata ai Vegetali, C.Ν.R, Bari and at ENEA  (Ente per le Nuove Tecnologie, L'Energia e L'Ambiente), Dipartimento di Biotecnologie e Agroindustria, Roma. She holds a PhD from the Agricultural University of Athens, with a doctoral dissertation entitled: “Production and Evaluation of Diploid Potato Plants (Release of useful gametoclonal variation against Meloidogyne spp. nematodes and potato virus Y and X)”.
From 1986-1989 she was a researcher at the National Agricultural Research Foundation (NAGREF), Heraklion Crete. Since 1989 she has engaged in teaching and research at the School of Agriculture, TEI of Crete. Her research interest is the improvement of propagating material of important plant species using in vitro technologies. Over the part 15 years she has collaborated with private and public bodies (donors and end users), via research projects and provision of services projects, with the aim of modernising and developing local advantageous crops. Much of her research has been published in international scientific peer-reviewed journals and in the proceedings of national and international conferences.
In the Department of Agriculture she teaches the undergraduate courses Advanced Agriculture and Production of Propagating Material, and the postgraduate course Business Production & Management of Plant Propagating Material.
