A different event with a spectacular sight was hosted by the MARCOS KARANASTASIS indoor gym of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) from April 7 to 10, 2023. It was the MINOAN ROBOTSPORTS COMPETITION GLOBAL OLYMPIAD which gathered around 4,000 visitors.
Teams from 34 countries participated with their robot-athletes in 16 sports (football, archery, shot put, wrestling, etc.) while there was also a special category for humanoid robots.
The aim of the event was to introduce the competitors and the general public to sports robotics. Mainly children – elementary school, middle school, high school students – but also many adults participated in teams in the competition with the aim of creating their own Robot Athletes and competing in the context of noble rivalry.
The ultimate goal: to foster teamwork, creativity, ingenuity and healthy competition and to showcase the achievements of scientific fields such as engineering, programming, mathematics and physics.
