A high-ranking government delegation of six people from the city of Ningbo, China visited, on Monday 20 May 2024, the Rector of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) in Heraklion. The meeting was attended by the Rector Prof. Nikos Katsarakis, the Vice-Rector for International Relations and Outreach Prof. Konstantinos Petridis, the Executive Director Ms. Vanessa Simantiraki, the President of the Department of Business Administration and Tourism Prof. Irini Dimou and the Senior President of the Department of Business Administration and Tourism Associate Professor Georgios Xanthos. The members of the mission were accompanied during their visit to the University, on the part of the Municipality of Heraklion, by the appointed advisor of the Municipality of Heraklion, in matters of connection with the University and Research Institutions, Mr. Nikolaos Kontarakis, the Municipal Councilor Mr. Anastasios Tsatsakis and the executive of the Tourism Department of the Municipality of Heraklion Irini Karouzaki.
At the meeting, the Rector Prof. Nikos Katsarakis referred to the study programs and the research carried out at the University, which are scientific fields of common interest for the two parties concerning energy, agriculture and tourism, as well as the Memorandum of Cooperation signed by the Department of Administration of Business and Tourism with Ningbo University. The head of the Chinese mission, Xu Yanan, said she was impressed by the study programs and the University’s progress in the field of international cooperation. Both parties expressed themselves positively in further expanding their cooperation through a new Memorandum of Cooperation in thematic areas of common interest and with the participation of the Municipality of Heraklion.
Ningbo and Heraklion are sister cities and during this time the Chinese delegation is making a formal visit to the Municipality of Heraklion with the aim of strengthening relations and exploring bilateral cooperation. One of the main purposes of this visit was the effort to strengthen the relations between the city of Ningbo and the Universities of Heraklion.
