Research Progress Presentations by PhD Candidates of the Department of Management Science and Technology at HMU – 2026

The Department of Management Science and Technology of Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) organized, for the third consecutive year, the “Research Progress Presentations by PhD Candidates” event on Friday, October 30, 2026.

During the event, 19 PhD candidates presented the progress of their doctoral dissertations to date, the results of their research work, as well as the next stages they plan to undertake as part of their doctoral research. Each presentation was followed by discussion with the audience and an exchange of views, fostering scientific dialogue around the respective research topics.

The event was coordinated by the Chair of the Department of Management Science and Technology, Professor Konstantinos Panagiotakis. The presentations were attended by faculty members of the Department, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students. Technical support and coverage of the event were provided by Iosif Konstantourakis, a member of the Department’s Special Technical Laboratory Staff (ETEP).

A broad range of contemporary research topics

The presentations highlighted the breadth of research areas being developed within the Department’s doctoral studies and their connection to contemporary scientific, technological, administrative and social challenges.

The topics presented included digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence in management, the use of Artificial Intelligence in education, machine learning, cybersecurity and IoT environments, image and video analysis, big data applications, human resource management, healthcare, social media, ESG criteria and the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as applications of Artificial Intelligence in tourism and the public sphere.

The diversity of the research topics reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the research conducted at the Department of Management Science and Technology and its connection with real-world problems and the contemporary needs of organizations, businesses and society.

Strengthening the academic and research community

The annual presentation of PhD candidates’ research progress constitutes an important part of the Department’s research activity, as it provides early-career researchers with the opportunity to publicly present the development of their work, receive feedback and exchange scientific views with members of the academic community.

According to data provided by the Department, the majority of the PhD candidates who participated in the event have already published research in international scientific journals and conferences, highlighting the systematic research activity carried out within the Department’s doctoral studies.

The event concluded with a discussion on the next stages of the research projects, while the next corresponding research progress presentation is scheduled for October 2027.

The event forms part of the broader academic and research activities of the Department of Management Science and Technology. According to a published study on the research performance of regional university departments in economics-related fields, the Department of Management Science and Technology ranks second among 34 corresponding Departments in Greece. At the same time, it meets the required academic criteria and offers accredited undergraduate and postgraduate study programs, which have received high evaluations from the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE).

Faculty members of the Department have also received significant international distinctions. Among them, two Professors have been included in the top 2% of scholars worldwide according to ScholarGPS, while in 2026 the Chair of the Department, Professor Konstantinos Panagiotakis, was included for the first time in the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier.
