The Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) has achieved a strong presence in the “Research–Innovate” Action of the “Competitiveness” Programme under the NSRF 2021–2027, as 17 research proposals submitted through the Hellenic Mediterranean University’s Special Account for Research Funds (SARF) are included in the first decision approving evaluation results for funding, following a competitive scientific and technical evaluation process.
These results are included in Decision No. 1874/09.09.2026 of the Ministry of Development – Special Service for the Management and Implementation of Actions in the Fields of Research and Innovation (EYDE EK), approving the evaluation results of Intervention II, “Partnerships between Businesses and Research Organisations”, under the “Research–Innovate” Action.
A total of 82 research proposals were submitted through the Hellenic Mediterranean University’s Special Account for Research Funds. HMU participated as Coordinating Organisation in 31 proposals and as a Consortium Partner in the remaining 51.
The Ministry of Development’s decision approving the evaluation results, dated 9 September 2026, includes 17 proposals involving HMU, in five of which the University serves as the Coordinating Organisation.
At national level, 1,938 funding applications were evaluated under Intervention II, of which 199 were approved, with a total funded budget of €303,205,405.23 and total public expenditure of €270,771,974.51. The 199 approved applications correspond to approximately 10.27% of the total number of applications referred to in the Decision, while the HMU proposals approved to date account for 20.73% of all proposals submitted through the University.
The 17 approved proposals involving HMU cover a particularly broad range of scientific and technological fields, with projects across seven thematic categories: Materials, Construction and Industry; Environment and Circular Economy; Agri-food Chain; Tourism, Culture and Creative Industries; Life Sciences, Health and Pharmaceuticals; Digital Technologies; and Sustainable Energy.
This performance highlights the research capacity and interdisciplinary character of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, as well as its ability to develop substantial synergies with businesses and research organisations for the generation of new knowledge and its application in innovative solutions with developmental and societal impact.
At the same time, it highlights the important role of HMU’s Special Account for Research Funds in supporting the University’s research activities, making effective use of competitive funding instruments, and strengthening the links between academic research, the productive sector and entrepreneurship.
The inclusion of 17 HMU proposals in the first decision approving the results of the “Research–Innovate” Action represents a particularly positive development and another important step towards further strengthening the Hellenic Mediterranean University’s presence in the national ecosystem of research, technological development and innovation.
