Hellenic Mediterranean University, as part of its participation in the ATHENA European University, invites the academic community to a new online lecture in the ATHENA Talks 2026–2027 series, which will take place on Friday, 23 October 2026, at 11:00 (Greek time).
The lecture is part of the Sustainable Production thematic area and is entitled:
“From Controlling to Living with Salinity: Lessons for Sustainable Agricultural Adaptation from the Vietnamese Mekong Delta”
The invited speaker is Dr. Dang Kieu Nhan, Principal Researcher at the Mekong Institute of Can Tho University, Vietnam.
About the Lecture
Climate change, sea-level rise and increasing salinity in soils and water resources are creating significant challenges for the sustainability of agricultural production.
Drawing on the experience of the Mekong Delta, Dr. Dang Kieu Nhan will present how local farming communities are moving away from traditional salinity-control practices towards innovative adaptation strategies and the sustainable management of natural resources.
Particular emphasis will be placed on how these experiences could be applied in other parts of the world, including the Mediterranean and Crete, where climate change, water scarcity and soil salinization are becoming increasingly important challenges for the primary sector.
The lecture is addressed to students, researchers, academic staff and professionals interested in sustainable agriculture, environmental management and climate change adaptation.
