Hellenic Mediterranean University is taking part in the celebration of the International Fascination of Plants Day with an event to be held on Sunday, 24 May 2026, starting at 9:30 a.m., at the University Farm facilities. The event is organized under the auspices of the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO), with the support of the Region of Crete and the Regional Development Fund of Crete, and is included in the project “Crete European Region of Gastronomy 2026”.
Fascination of Plants Day is an excellent initiative that brings Science closer to Society, strengthening cooperation with Civil Society and promoting collective responsibility for the protection of the natural environment. Through broad participation, the vital role of plants for life on the planet is highlighted, along with the need for the sustainable management of natural resources.
As part of the event, open activities of an educational and experiential nature will be held, addressed to visitors of all ages. The programme includes guided tours of laboratories, the botanical garden and other areas of the University Farm, experiential and interactive workshops, presentations and exhibits, artistic activities and musical performances, as well as activities specially designed for children and visitors of all ages.
At the same time, visitors will have the opportunity to taste local gastronomic recipes, traditional delicacies, beverages and drinks from Crete, highlighting the close relationship between plant biodiversity, gastronomy and the cultural identity of the region.
Hellenic Mediterranean University invites the general public, students, educators and civil society organizations to actively participate in the event and discover the “magic” of the world of plants through a day dedicated to knowledge, experience and environmental awareness.
