Establishment of the Joint Inter-Institutional MSc in”Data Analysis and Financial Technology” (Distance Learning) between Hellenic Mediterranean University and Neapolis University Pafos

With the official visit of the Rector of Neapolis University Pafos, Professor Pantelis Sklias and the Professor of Banking and Finance of the Department of Economics of the University of Piraeus – Principal Investigator at the School of Economics of Management and Informatics at Neapolis University Pafos, Maria Psillaki, the launch of the joint Inter-Institutional Postgraduate Program (MSc) “Data Analysis and Financial Technology” (Distance Learning) was validated on Friday, January 13th, 2023.

On behalf of Hellenic Mediterranean University were present: the Rector Professor Nikos Katsarakis, the former Vice-Rector for Research and Lifelong Learning – Member of the Administrative Council, Professor Christos Floros, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Welfare and Lifelong Learning, Professor Fotis Mavromatakis, the Vice-Rector for International Relations and Extroversion, Associate Professor Konstantinos Petridis (online participation), the Dean of the School of Management Sciences and Economics, Professor Stylianos Papadakis, the President of the Department of Management Science and Technology, Associate Professor Konstantinos Panagiotakis (online participation), the President of the Department of Accounting and Finance, Associate Professor Ioannis Chatziantoniou and the Associate Professor of the Department of Management Science and Technology Christos Lemonakis.

At the meeting, the Rector of Hellenic Mediterranean University, Professor Nikos Katsarakis, characterized the MSc as an innovative cutting-edge program with expected high demand and high perspective in the field of financial sciences, while he underlined that the expected benefits of this cooperation are many for HMU, both in the fields of education and research, as well as in the fields of internationalization and extroversion, fields in which the universities of Cyprus have extensive experience.

For his part, the Rector of Neapolis University Pafos, Professor Pantelis Sklias, mentioned that the establishment of the new MSc has a key and strategic importance in the context of the joint internationalization effort of the two institutions, while he stressed that the important position that Cyprus holds as a rising financial services hub in the SE Mediterranean is an important factor supporting the Postgraduate Program in the future even more.

The former Vice-Rector for Research and Lifelong Education – Member of the Board of Administration, Professor of Finance, Christos Floros, who was a key contributor to the establishment and promotion of the program, welcomed the proposal of the cooperation of the two university institutions – that both benefit from geographical proximity in the SE Mediterranean – to be extended in addition to Postgraduate, further to Undergraduate and Doctoral Study Programs as well as Lifelong Learning programs.

Accordingly, Professor of Banking – Principal Researcher at Neapolis Paphos University, Maria Psillaki underlined that it is very important that both universities are key members of European University Alliances – “ATHENA” (ELMEPA) and “EMERGE” (Neapolis Paphos University) – a fact which is a basic condition for their continuous funding through European programs but also a passport for possible collaborations with British and American universities.

The MSc is offered by the Departments of Accounting and Finance and Administrative Science and Technology of the School of Management and Economics of the Hellenic Mediterranean University and the Departments of Accounting and Finance and Informatics of the University of Neapolis Paphos.

The Inter-institutional MSc awards a Master’s Degree in “Data Analytics and Financial Technology” which has been certified by the Republic of Cyprus, a fact that automatically leads to certification by the Hellenic Interdisciplinary Organization for the Recognition of Academic Degrees and Information (DOATAP). The duration of the program is defined in three (3) academic semesters.
