The Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), with a consistent commitment to supporting students from the very first day of their academic journey, is organizing “Student Welcome Day 2026”, aiming to welcome the new generation of first-year students in a meaningful, friendly, and contemporary way. The event will take place on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at the Heraklion Campus, and has been designed to offer first-year students a comprehensive introduction to the University, its services, its people, and the opportunities available to them throughout their studies.
The official opening of “Welcome Day 2026” will begin with a greeting by the Rector of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, Professor Nektarios Papadogiannis, addressed to the first-year students, marking the beginning of their new academic journey at HMU. The Rector will then present honorary awards to the top ten incoming students of each Department, in recognition of their performance in the Panhellenic Examinations. Through this distinction, HMU highlights the value of effort and academic achievement, honoring the success of the newest members of its university community.
The program will continue with a presentation of the services and benefits available at HMU through interactive panel discussions, with the participation of representatives from the University’s relevant services and offices. The sessions will present the opportunities available for academic support, skills development, international mobility, access to knowledge, sports, cultural activities, and active participation in university life. In this way, first-year students will have the opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of HMU’s academic and support environment, as well as the services available to them throughout their studies.
The second part of the program will take place in the outdoor area of the “V. Zacharopoulos” Amphitheatre, where parallel networking and social activities, games, and interactive events will be organized for first-year students, creating a welcoming and lively environment for communication and familiarization with student life. The outdoor activities will be accompanied by music curated by the HMU Radio Station, while refreshments will be offered to participants, further enhancing the festive atmosphere of the day. Representatives of HMU’s cultural and volunteer groups will also be present at specially designated information points, where first-year students will be able to learn about their activities and initiatives, speak with group members, and discover ways to become actively involved in student life at the Hellenic Mediterranean University.
A special feature of “Welcome Day 2026” will once again be the interactive QR Game, specifically designed for first-year students of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, offering them an enjoyable and participatory way to explore the Campus. Through the game and the process of discovery, first-year students will have the opportunity to become familiar with the University’s facilities, get to know their new academic environment, and learn more about the institution’s infrastructure and key areas. As a reward for participating in the game, a prize draw will also take place, adding an extra element of engagement and entertainment to the day’s experience.
“Student Welcome Day 2026” represents the first organized introduction of first-year students to HMU and its academic community. From information about the University’s services and support provisions to meeting its people, student groups, and facilities, the event has been designed to provide first-year students with a complete overview of the student experience at HMU. Through a modern and interactive program that encourages communication and participation, the Hellenic Mediterranean University reaffirms its ongoing commitment to supporting students from the very first day of their studies.
