Memorandum of Cooperation between HMU and Eurobank on Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The Hellenic Mediterranean University, through its Technology Transfer and Innovation Unit, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, with Eurobank and the business accelerator egg – enter grow go, aiming to support innovation, entrepreneurship, and the utilization of the research knowledge produced at the Institution.

The Memorandum was signed by the Rector of HMU, Professor Nikos Katsarakis, and Ms Roula Bachtalia, Head of Venture Banking at Eurobank and member of the Coordinating Committee of the egg Accelerator.

On behalf of HMU, the signing ceremony was also attended by the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Professor Athanasios Malamos, the Vice-Rector for Finance, Planning, Development and Student Welfare, Professor Nikos Vidakis, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Lifelong Learning, Professor Fotios Mavromatakis, as well as the Executive Director, Dr Vanessa Simantiraki.

On behalf of Eurobank, the ceremony was also attended by Mr Aretaios Chourdakis, Senior Associate Venture Banking, Ms Katerina Poulopoulou, Account Manager Venture Banking, Mr Ilias Simintzis, Senior RM, Public Sector Banking & NPOs, and Ms Eleni Kardianaki, Director of the Heraklion, Crete branch.

The cooperation will be implemented through the Technology Transfer and Innovation Unit of HMU and is based on three main pillars: connecting science and knowledge with innovation and entrepreneurship, expanding the innovation ecosystem in Greece, and supporting the University’s spin-offs and the innovative companies participating in the egg business accelerator.

Within the framework of the cooperation, joint actions are planned, including access to educational material, seminars and bootcamps, the organization of lectures and thematic events, the exchange of experience among research groups, students, academics and innovative enterprises, as well as support for initiatives aimed at empowering women researchers, students and entrepreneurs in STEAM technologies.

Following the signing of the Memorandum, Mr Nikos Katsarakis stated:

“The cooperation with Eurobank and egg creates new opportunities for our university community, bringing students, researchers and faculty members closer to the ecosystem of innovation and start-up entrepreneurship. HMU systematically invests in the utilization of the knowledge produced at the Institution and in supporting new ideas that can develop into innovative applications, products and services for the benefit of society and the economy.”

Ms Roula Bachtalia stated:

“The cooperation with the Hellenic Mediterranean University is another substantial step towards connecting the academic community with the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Through Eurobank’s Venture Banking and the egg Accelerator, we seek to support researchers, students and new business teams by providing them with access to knowledge, networks and growth opportunities. We believe that the utilization of research and the transformation of innovative ideas into sustainable businesses can make a meaningful contribution to strengthening the competitiveness and outward orientation of the Greek economy.”
