Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Website of the Department

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers a five-year (5-year) study program that covers the fields of Energy, Automatic Control Electronics, Telecommunications, and Computers. It is a very dynamic Department that aspires to offer all necessary training, as well as properly prepare future Engineers by equipping them with the required knowledge, skills, and experience to become our future specialized and high-level executives serving science and industry. Students acquire theoretical knowledge and technical training in the areas of study covered by the Department; they also develop oral and written communication skills as well as teamwork and collaboration skills. The study program of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers the following advanced majors:

  1. Electric Power Systems
  2. Electronics, Systems, and Computers
  3. Telecommunications and Information Technology

These majors educate and train students in the following fields:

  • Electrical & Electronic Power Systems
  • Energy Technologies
  • Electronic & Microelectronic Systems
  • Digital Systems & Automatic Control
  • Telecommunication Systems
  • Computer Engineering and Informatics

The three majors are taught and supported by personnel distinguished in relevant engineering disciplines. More specifically, the Department is staffed by 37 Teaching and Research Staff members (TRS), 2 Laboratory Teaching Staff members (LTS), and 4 Special Technical Laboratory Personnel members (STLP).

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has remarkable research infrastructure that keeps improving. This is all thanks to the institutionalized labs and the efforts of the TRS members to obtain research funding by national and European sources.

In addition to their education courses, students also actively contribute to the research that takes place in the Department. Most undergraduate and postgraduate students prepare their theses in the research laboratories, participating in research and development activities.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has been offering Master’s Programs in Engineering subjects since 2012, which boast more than 120 Master’s Graduates.

The Department has established a number of official collaborations with other Higher Education Institutes both in Greece and abroad within the framework of postgraduate research, co-teaching, and joint degree acquisition, as well as in the framework of research and development consortia.
