The Department of Music Technology & Acoustics of HMU supports the performance “Mikis Speaks…”

The Department of Music Technology & Acoustics of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) supported the musical performance “Mikis Speaks…”, paying tribute to the work and artistic legacy of Mikis Theodorakis. Through this initiative, the Department actively contributed to promoting music education and cultural creativity in Crete.

The performance took place on 30 November 2025 at the Rethymno Conservatory, in the Pantelis Prevelakis Hall. It was dedicated to the great Greek composer, bringing to life pages of modern Greek history as narrated by Theodorakis himself, accompanied by his songs.

How can the new generation encounter Mikis Theodorakis? How can a young person experience his music without having lived through the historical events so closely tied to it? These questions formed the core of the creative process and led to a collaboration with the Passe-pARTout group from Chania — a young musical community that expresses itself through art and brings it dynamically into everyday life.

Through reflection, study, rehearsals, and collective work, Passe-pARTout, together with a four-member musical ensemble, undertook the task of offering their own answers. On stage, the voice of Mikis “speaks,” recounting moments of his life and modern Greek history, while the young musicians perform his melodies and songs live, offering a new and moving perspective on his work.

With this performance, HMU and the Department of Music Technology & Acoustics reaffirm their role as institutions of culture and education, supporting initiatives that connect generations through the power of music.

Contributors to the Performance:
