The Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) organized and hosted, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the Interuniversity Basketball and Volleyball Tournament of Crete at the “Markos Karanastasis” Indoor Sports Center on the Heraklion University Campus.
The event attracted a large number of students and sports fans, who created a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere, offering strong and continuous support to the teams throughout the matches.
The tournament featured the participation of the Hellenic Mediterranean University and the University of Crete, represented by the following basketball and volleyball teams:

Winners:
- In Men’s Basketball, the winning team was the University of Crete (Rethymno).
- In Men’s Volleyball, the winning team was the University of Crete (Heraklion).
- In Women’s Volleyball, the winning team was the University of Crete (Heraklion).
The event concluded with complete success, both in terms of technical preparation and in ensuring a positive experience for all participants, who departed particularly satisfied, acknowledging the excellent organization and effort of the organizers.
The responsibility for the organization of the tournament was undertaken by the HMU Physical Education instructors, Manolis Kamaratos and Irini Kyriakoudi.
The awards ceremony for the winning teams, as well as the presentation of commemorative participation awards to the athletes, was conducted by the Vice-Rector for Finance, Planning, Development and Student Welfare of HMU, Professor Nikos Vidakis; the Head of the HMU Directorate of Student Welfare, Spyros Apostolakis; and the HMU Physical Education instructors, Manolis Kamaratos and Irini Kyriakoudi.
The Hellenic Mediterranean University continues to invest in student life and sports, strengthening cooperation and fair play among the university institutions of Crete.
