A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed today, Wednesday, March 20, 2024 by the Rector of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) Prof. Nikos Katsarakis and the President of the Institute of Humanities & Social Sciences (IAKE) Dr. Eleni Maraki for the preparation of a pilot study and intervention in selected Primary & Secondary Education schools of the Heraklion Regional Unit of Crete on the subject of School Absences.
The main objective of this collaboration is the creation of a “Study Group on School Absences & Intervention” for the development of a supportive action in the school community which will encourage the attachment of students to school, starting from the Region of Crete.
Regarding the School Absenteeism Study, the two Partners took into account, that school absences are a serious public health problem affecting young people in all countries.
