With great formality, on Thursday, September 18, 2025, the honorary doctorate award ceremony for the internationally renowned Professor Panagiotis (Panos) Pardalos was held at the Event Amphitheatre of the School of Health Sciences at the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU).
The honorary title was conferred by the Department of Accounting and Finance (https://accfin.hmu.gr/) of the School of Management and Economics, in recognition of Professor Pardalos’s long-standing, multifaceted, and highly significant contributions to the fields of Applied Mathematics, Data Analysis, and scientific research. His work is distinguished by academic excellence, innovation, and deep social sensitivity.
The ceremony was attended by members of the academic community, representatives of institutional bodies, and students, who gathered to honor the distinguished scholar. The program included:
– a welcome address by the Rector of HMU, Professor Nikos Katsarakis,
– remarks by the Head of the Department, Associate Professor Ioannis Chatziantoniou,
– and a presentation of the honoree’s scientific achievements by Professor Christos Floros, member of the University’s Governing Council.
A highlight of the event was Professor Pardalos’s keynote lecture titled “Impact of AI on the Economics of Sustainability”, in which he highlighted the profound transformations brought about by Artificial Intelligence in the economy and the path toward a sustainable future. His speech sparked a productive dialogue on the challenges and opportunities emerging in today’s era of technological transition.
The conferment of the Honorary Doctorate to Professor Pardalos is a distinction for HMU and reaffirms its role as a center of academic and scientific excellence.
