The HMU’s principles on gender equality
The Hellenic Mediterranean University puts every effort to guarantee gender equality, to fight discrimination and to spot wrongful social behavior deriving from gender related prejudices. The HMU adheres to the Constitutional Law on equal rights, specifically:
- Article 4(2) on equal rights and obligations of all Greek people;
- Article 116(2) on elimination of gender discrimination and promotion of gender equality through public action programmes.
The HMU’s Gender Equality Committee
Policies against discrimination in the academic community
- Every official institutional, instructional or administrative document must conform to the above principles.
- The language used by official bodies and in official documents should gradually adjust to reflect gender equality as much as possible.
- Both sexes should be represented in academic and administrative bodies.
- Collection and statistical analysis of data on women’s professional rank and career advancement in the university, so as to detect and tackle cases of exclusion from scientific knowledge and high positions.
- Actual support to academic community members who are parents in facilitating their effort to combine family with career and/or studies.
- Decisive and effective act against sexual harassment.
