The Safety and Security Committee is an advisory body of the University and its mission is the continuous monitoring of issues related to the safety and protection of the members of the university community and its infrastructure, as well as the development of proposals and recommendations to the Rector or the competent Vice-Rector, as appropriate, for the establishment and implementation of safety and protection measures applicable to the University’s indoor and outdoor areas. Its mission also includes raising awareness and informing academic, administrative and other staff, as well as students, on matters of safety, protection, and crisis management in cases of natural, technological, or human-induced disasters, as well as safeguarding the University’s facilities and equipment from all types of risks. Indicatively, the Committee’s responsibilities include:
a) Preparing the University’s safety and protection plan, which includes the proposed technical and non-technical safety measures and the timeline for their implementation across the institution’s premises, with the aim of upgrading the level of safety and protection of its infrastructure.
b) Recommending the organization and implementation of programs, actions, seminars, events, and other related initiatives, in collaboration with public sector bodies or social organizations, with the purpose of raising awareness among academic and administrative staff, as well as students, regarding the prevention of unlawful behavior within the University, such as physical and verbal violence, drug use, involvement in criminal groups, racist violence, and damage to the University’s movable and immovable property.
c) Recommending the formation of specialized teams that support its work for the more effective exercise of its responsibilities, such as crisis and disaster management teams and fire protection teams, in collaboration with the Fire Service or the competent services of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
