The Center for Training and Lifelong Learning (KEDIVIM) of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) organizes the Training Program entitled: “Simulated Clinical Training in the Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)”.
🩺 The 1st training cycle has been successfully completed!
👉 Applications are now open for the 2nd cycle of the training program.
Program Objective
The program “Simulated Clinical Training in the Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)” aims to provide both theoretical and practical training to healthcare professionals in the use of the intra-aortic balloon pump, the most widely used device for short-term mechanical circulatory support worldwide.
Participants will acquire:
- specialized knowledge in cardiovascular physiology,
- in-depth understanding of IABP function,
- hands-on experience in operating the control console,
- skills in recognizing potential complications, and
- competence in managing clinical scenarios through simulator-based hands-on training.
Target Audience
The program is addressed to:
- Physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals working in healthcare facilities with the capability to provide mechanical circulatory support using IABP, such as:
- Intensive Care Units (general and specialized, e.g. cardiology and cardiothoracic ICUs),
- Hemodynamic laboratories,
- Operating rooms,
- Emergency Departments,
- Inter-hospital transport services for critically ill patients.
- Physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who wish to acquire specialized knowledge and skills related to the intra-aortic balloon pump.
Program Content
The program enables trainees to:
- gain an in-depth understanding of circulatory physiology and the fundamental principles of hemodynamic support,
- become familiar with the theoretical foundations of IABP operation,
- develop practical skills in the management and monitoring of patients supported by IABP through hands-on training and simulation of clinical scenarios,
- effectively respond to real-life clinical conditions related to the use of IABP.
