The Minister of Education, Religion and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis visited Hellenic Mediterranean University in Heraklion on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 where he was welcomed by the Rector of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, Professor Nikolaos Katsarakis, the Vice-Rectors and the members of the Board of Management.
In the working meeting, the Minister was informed by the Rector about the upward progress of the University in recent years, about issues related to the undergraduate and postgraduate programs as well as the doctoral programs, about the distinctions in matters of research and innovation as well as about the extroversion and internationalization actions. Finally, he was informed about key infrastructure issues that directly affect the development and upgrading of the institution.
The Minister, after the briefing, stated that the University administration will have the support of the ministry in the fair request for the matching of the three Departments of the School of Engineering with Departments of Polytechnic Schools and the establishment of a Polytechnic School based in Heraklion. He was also positive about finding a solution to the issue of student accommodation both in Heraklion and in the other cities of Crete. At the same time, he pointed out the importance of universities creating education and training programs with a very high demand in the labor market.
After the meeting, Mr. Pierrakakis had a campus tour to the laboratories and facilities of the University, where he had the opportunity to talk with members of the educational and administrative staff, students and researchers.
