International distinction for the Institute of Plasma & Laser Physics

International distinction for the Institute of Plasma & Laser Physics (https://ippl.hmu.gr/) of the University Research and Innovation Center of Hellenic Mediterranean University. The research paper “Kaselouris, E., Skoulakis, A., Dimitriou, V., Fitilis, I., Chatzakis, J., Bakarezos, M., Papadogiannis, N, & Tatarakis., M. (2022) “Progress on the electro-thermo-mechanical instability and its role as seed on plasma instabilities, Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 64(10), 105008” was selected by the scientific committee of the world-wide and high-profile Canadian organization Advances in Engineering in June of 2023 as pioneering scientific work that contributes to research excellence in the scientific field of Applied Physics. The work investigates the creation of Electro-Thermo-Mechanical instability in the solid phase of matter, when it interacts with strong external currents. The scientific findings confirm the importance and critical role of  Electro-Thermo-Mechanical instability as a feeding mechanism for the development of instabilities in the plasma phase. In a statement to the organization Advances in Engineering, the director of the Institute and chief researcher Professor Michalis Tatarakis, explained that the study provides a detailed explanation of what happens in the initial stages of heated matter, a fact of critical importance for the scientific community dealing with inertial confinement fusion but also for other materials science applications (https://advanceseng.com/progress-electro-thermo-mechanical-instability-role-seed-plasma-instabilities/
