The University Research Center (PEK) of the Hellenic Mediterranean University was established by Law 4610/2019, article 26(1) (FEK 70/Τ.Α’/07.05.2019) and operates as a distinct academic unit of the HMU, based in Heraklion and supervised by the Institute’s Senate.
The purpose of PEK is to:
- conduct basic and applied research
- utilise research results for the benefit of Greek society
- assist new scientists acquiring specialization
- provide services to public and private entities
- educate and train
- collaborate with research institutions
- engage in research, developmental and consultative activities with local institutions
PEK consists of the following Institutes:
- The Institute of Emerging Technologies (i-EMERGE)
- The Institute of Plasma Physics and Lasers (IPPL)
- The Institute of Energy, Environment & Climate Change (IEECC)
- The Institute of Physics the Earth’s Interior & Geohazards (IFEGG)
- The Institute of Financial Analysis, Business Administration and Tourism
- The Institute of Agri-Food and Life Science
