Assoc. Prof. Emmanuel Roditakis, Head of the Department of Agriculture of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), was recently elected as an honorary member of the Council for International Congresses of Entomology (CICE). Mr. Roditakis is a professor of Agricultural Entomology and Pharmacology, a member of the institutionalized Laboratory of Biological and Biotechnological Applications (EBBE) of HMU, while he has been a member of the Entomological Society of Greece since 2000.
CICE is an international committee founded in 1910 with the aim of promoting the science of Entomology through the organization of World Congresses around the world. The World Congresses of Entomology are held every 4 years and to date 27 congresses have been held around the world. CICE oversees all the processes related to each Congress, starting from the submission of proposals for future conferences (bid), ensuring the selection of the best proposal. At the same time, it oversees the organization of each World Congress with the aim of scientific excellence, the emergence of new scientists and the promotion of innovative technologies in areas related to entomology, such as the primary sector, public health, rural, urban and forest ecosystems and the environment in general.
The World Congresses of Entomology are considered the most important scientific event in the Entomology community and are attended by the largest scientific entomological societies from all over the world, such as those of America (ESA), Brazil (SEB), Japan, China, Greece, the Royal Entomological Society (Royal Ent Soc) and many more. The last conference took place, 25-30 August 2024, in Kyoto, Japan with the participation of over 4,000 scientists from all over the world, from leading academic and research institutions.
It is the first time that a representative of the Greek scientific community participates in this internationally prestigious committee. Mr. Roditakis’ participation in CICE is particularly honorable for the Hellenic Mediterranean University and contributes significantly to the internationalization actions of the institution.
