On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Greece, Mr. Aramis Fuente Hernández, accompanied by his wife, had a meeting with the Rector of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), Prof. Nikos Katsarakis. The meeting, beyond protocol, had an exploratory character on issues of cooperation between the Departments of the Hellenic Mediterranean University with Universities and Research Institutions of Cuba in scientific objects of mutual interest. On the part of the University, present at the meeting were the Vice-Chancellor for International Relations and Outreach, Prof. Constantinos Petridis, the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation Prof. Athanasios Malamos, the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Lifelong Learning Prof. Fotios Mavromatakis and the President of the Department of Nutrition & Dietetic Sciences, Associate Professor Anastasia Markaki.
During the meeting, the Rector of HMU informed the Ambassador of Cuba about the educational and research activities of the university, about the thematic areas where the academic departments are active, as well as about outreach actions. In turn, the Ambassador of Cuba referred to the universities of his country and the interest they have in developing collaborations with Greek universities, which in recent years have shown strong mobility at the international level. At the end of the talks, there was a commitment from both sides to start talks, with the arrival of the new year, between HMU and Cuban universities active in the fields of nutrition, technology and tourism, so that it could be submitted cooperation proposal for funding through the European Erasmus Program.
