An informative meeting was held on 24 January 2025 between the Rector of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), Prof. Nikos Katsarakis, and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kenya in Greece, Ms. Vicky Pantazopoulou. The meeting was attended by the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Athanasios Malamos, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Lifelong Learning, Prof. Fotios Mavromatakis and the Executive Director, Dr. Vanessa Simantiraki, while present as well was the Deputy Governor of Crete for liaison with research and academic institutions, Mr. George Matalliotakis . Ms. Vicky Pantazopoulou was accompanied by Mr. Vasilis Katsikeas, President of the Hellenic-Kenyan Chamber.
The Rector informed the Honorary Consul about the study programs of all cycles offered by the University, the research and the internationalization actions. She emphasized that the university has already started a year ago the collaboration with African universities, through the institution of the International Week “Collaboration with African Universities”, which this year will take place from March 31 to April 4, 2025. The Honorary Consul expressed her enthusiasm for the prospects of this collaboration and stated that scientific fields related to energy, agriculture and tourism can constitute key pillars of cooperation between Hellenic Mediterranean University and the universities of the Republic of Kenya.
After the meeting, the Honorary Consul was given a tour of the Farm, the facilities and laboratories of the Department of Agriculture of the Hellenic Mediterranean University by the Dean of the School of Agricultural Sciences, Prof. Anastasia Tabakaki and the Head of the Department of Agriculture, Assoc. Prof. Manolis Roditakis.
